Addie S. Wood

–

Richmond, VA

Addie S. Wood was born December 7, 1937 to the late Eugene A. and Martha Randolph Sledge. On Friday, May 17, 2019 God, in his infinite wisdom, called his child home from her labors of this world to peace everlasting.

When you think of a phenomenal women, it was a perfect description of Addie as she was a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and a friend to many. Not only was she the matriarch of the family, she shared her passion of "always giving and never complaining" to others. She loved her family and provided the guidance and support needed to keep the family together.

Addie accepted Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church of South Richmond where she quickly became an active member of various ministries over the years. She was a member of the Joy Ministry, Wellness Group, Usher board ministry, Breakfast ministry, and the Bereavement choir. She was also a proud member of the Armstrong Class of 1955 and the Humanitarian Senior Ambassadors.

After 25 years of service, Addie retired from the Division of Motor Vehicle as an Accountant. She had a quiet yet settled personality which made others enjoy her company. She was a fun mother as she enjoyed playing family games, dancing, traveling and cooking. She will always be remembered for her "famous corn pudding". Looking over her life, she will truly be missed by all as no words can express the emptiness left within our hearts.

Addie S. Wood was married to the late Edward H. Wood. This union brought forth five children. She is preceded in death by her daughter Vickie M. Wood.

Addie leaves behind, (1) sister, Lillian V. Adams, (1) brother, Eugene Sledge Jr (Linda), (4) children, Kenneth A. Wood, Patrice M. Thompson and a devoted son-in-law (Timothy), Thelonius L. Wood (Sylvia), Lyndon M. Wood (Tonjia), 6 grandchildren, (10) great grandchildren, (1) niece, (4) nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
