Alvin Lee Harris, Sr. Obituary (1949

Alvin Lee Harris Sr. a resident of Richmond, Virginia went into eternal rest on Monday, September 27, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on May 23, 1949 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Melissa and Clarence Harris, Sr,. To this union was born seven children; Clarence, Alvin, Russell and Rosa(twins), Lucy, William and Ida (twins). Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Clarence Harris Jr, and two sisters; Ida and Rosa Harris. A son: Clarence William Harris (Billy). Alvin graduated from Carver High School in Chester, VA in 1967. He married Laverne Harris and to this union was born Alvin Harris Jr. and Bryant A. Harris, of Richmond, Virginia. Alvin, at the age of 19 joined the United Stated Army and was proud to serve his country. Alvin was a Demolition Engineer and received numerous awards, honors and accomplishments. After his retirement from the military he became a strong advocate for the military. It was a daily conversation to share his war experiences and how proud he was to serve as a veteran. He helped people to understand what soldiers went through to sacrifice their lives to serve and protect our country. Alvin became an entrepreneur and owned his own tractor trailer business and was an independent driver. He endured an unexpected tragedy while driving his tractor trailer where he lost his ability to ever walk again. Alvin did not allow the accident or his legs to determine the rest of his destiny. He was able to obtain other skills despite having both of his legs amputated. Alvin was an amazing and outstanding auto mechanic that could assess and repair any vehicle that came into his yard. Alvin persevered and was motivated every day by his army experience and the ability to go outside and work on cars which was his passion. Alvin was also a lover of what he called the oldies and goodies music. Alvin's legacy lives on through his three sons, Alvin Jr, and Bryant both of Richmond, VA and Antonio of Washington D.C., 1 daughter, Yvonne Martinez (adopted daughter) of Richmond, VA. Three grandchildren, Justis Harris, Alexis Hollsome (Raul), Justine Mizell, 4, grandchildren, Jvssyran Johnson, King Johnson, Adonis Hollsome, and Briyana Harris. He was known to be called "pops" by his two adopted grandsons Shawn Reed and Angelo Ellis; his sister, Lucy Harris of Chesterfield, VA, his brother: William Harris, Chesterfield , VA; nephews: David Harris, Russell Leon Harris Jr., niece, Clarise Bradshaw (Arthur) Extended family Carla Mizell, and Carolyn Price. A special friend Hoda Emam, Devoted Friends of Many years Mr. Walter& Mrs. Marie Hailton, Mr. Bernard Branch, Mr. Leroy Gregory, Tracey Patterson-Milner and Christina Ramiez, Mr. Jonnie Hembrick. A host of other relatives and friends. If we love the Lord with all of our heart and soul and our entire mind, He will save our soul. As Alvin's health began to fail and deteriorate, he accepted the fact he would lose the battle for his life on earth. It is our hope by God's grace, Alvin will be saved and that he would gain life eternal in Heaven. We will miss our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. We have hope he is resting in peace!
