Carolyn Monroe

–

N. Chesterfield, VA

Carolyn Monroe was born August 13, 1954 in Richmond VA. She grew up with all four siblings with her mother, Edna Monroe in a house in Historic Jackson Ward. Most of her first cousins, aunts and uncles stayed in that home as well. They use to walk to Carver Elementary from Jackson Ward as a child she also attended Maggie L. Walker before attending George Wythe High School as a teenager. After High School she met Lest Thompson the father of her two children, Gerard Monroe and Trista Monroe-Allen (Joseph Allen). She attended Rutledge College and Commonwealth College where she gained her Certification in Computer Science. She was a devoted employee with the Department of Social Services-Division of Child Support Enforcement where she retired in June 2019 after working there 30 years. Throughout the years, she has always volunteered to numerous nonprofit organizations like "The March of Dimes" and "Red Cross." Carolyn was not devoted to one church but would visit Mount Gilead with her Best Friend Margaret Dockery and Village of Faith with her Brother Raymond Monroe (Linda Monroe). Carolyn loved to eat Blue Crabs during the summer months at Family gatherings or even in the comfort of her own home. She enjoyed watching action and suspense Movies with Denzel and laughing at Comedy specials by Kevin Hart and Tyler Perry films. Over the years she was a collector of Turtle figurines, jewelry and stuffed animals that she would display in her home. She enjoyed helping others and giving advice to help motivate them to want more and better for themselves in life whether it were a family member, friend, or client she would encounter at work. At times you may not have wanted to hear it, but you would definitely listen and would always end it by saying "This is for your own Good" and she truly meant that from the heart. She touched a lot of people, sometimes more that she even knew because the values and strong will she instilled into her children Gerard and Trista will forever be apart of her legacy that lives on through her grandchildren and the advocacy to keep a strong family unit as much as possible because family meant the most to her and as she would say "Do Not Put anything before Family, because you can replace material things but you cannot replace a daughter, son, Mother or Father." She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Gerard Monroe And Trista Monroe-Allen (Joseph); grandchildren, Jamal Monroe, Thomas Monroe, Anonya Monroe, Zaire Monroe, Gerard Monroe, Jr., and Aden Monroe; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
