Clayon "Pete" Roper, Jr. Obituary (1993 - 2017)

Clayon George Roper Jr was born on January 15, 1993, In Richmond VA to Clayon George Roper Sr. and Latasha Ruffin. He was baptized at Swansboro Baptist church in Richmond. He attended Westover Hills Elementary School and George Wythe High School. In his early years he was known to his family and friends as "Lil P". From an early age P was always entertaining people, always the life of the party, there was never a dull moment when he was around. From school days all his classmates and teachers remembered him as being the life in the classroom always making everyone laugh. His favorite subject in school was music. His love of music is one he would have all of his life. P's family and friends remember him as being loving, energetic, kind, playful and independent young man. He was trying to learn and grow each day. He had a passion for life and loved his family above all else. Growing up he would always be listening to his dad and his uncles play reggae music, this was the foundation for his passion. He loved to dance and joke around with his family and friends. Later when he grew up he didn't want to be called "Lil P' anymore so he decided to be called "Jamaican Pete" then added "El Mundo El Jeffe" (he was defiantly the "The World Boss"). His favorite dish of course was any Jamaican food, he loved to eat. Pete loved and fully embraced his Jamaican roots. He was an original, a unique spirit that created his own signature style. He is and was "JTD" yall know what that means right? "Just too different". Knowing and loving him was a blessing and in his short time with us he influenced and motivated countless others. His mother has countless memories but her favorite was of how he was always caring and loved family. His love for his mother Tasha was unconditional. He was always calling her and asking her "did you eat? Did you take your medicine?" He made sure she was good all the time. Pete was a provider, and he took taking care of his family very seriously. His dad remembers how he was always repping for his Jamaican family and always reassuring him that he was keeping the family together. One aunt remembered him always coming for his "food" he would call and say" Auntie what a gwaan weh yu cook". Another aunt remembered he would spot her from a mile away no matter where it was and all you could hear was "Auntie Berta bombo claat wah gwaan" at the top of his voice. His fiance Coach remembers how concerned he always was calling to ask "did you eat Coach?" Brittany his cousin remembers how he was always talking to people and she would say "Pete you know them" and he would say "no" but kept a conversation going. People were drawn to his amazing energy. Another cousin Shawn remembers that he was always dancing and having fun everywhere they went posting many of these moments on his Snap. Pete was a star and everyone loved to watch him shine. Pete will always be remembered for his infectious smile and his free spirit which affected the hearts of everyone who was fortunate enough to meet him. He had the ability to look at you and make you smile even on a bad day. enjoying life, cherishing his family and living in the moment were hallmark of his vibrant nature. Though his time with us was way too short, his larger than life personality and spirit will endure in the hearts of those of us who have been graced with loving and knowing him. On Sunday July 9th, 2017, Pete made his untimely transition. He is preceded in death by his Grandfather's Lenroy Roper and Bobby Ruffin, and Grandmother Veryl Carter Ruffin. Left to cherish his memories are his Mother Latasha Ruffin, Father Clayon George Roper Sr, Step dad Jerry Jones, Children Camille (Ke'Shawn) and Sa'Riyah (DeTezia), Brother Namor, Sisters Brittany, Doh'licia (Renardo), J'heriah, Alanda, Jerri and Jade, Fiance Wazeerah, Great Grandmothers Lucy Morton, Mamie Goins, Grandfather Raliegh Goins, Grandmother Veda Rose, Great Aunt Rosa Brown (Edward) Aunts Brittany, Kimberly, Sharolyn, Roberta, Prudencia, Juliet and Keondra "Kee-Kee", Uncles Thomas, Orville "Lil Ray", Trey, Lenworth, Patrick, Monsell, Garret, Jermaine, Vantroy, Michael, Devon and Everold. Devoted Cousins, Shawn, Brittany and Kirby, God Brothers Windell (Felice), Melvin (Lashawn), Andrew (Britany), Friends Lloyd, Travonn and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00am Mimms Chapel.
