Gloucester Point, Virginia
Clyde Sylvester “Vetty” Gregory was born on January 14th, 1945, in Richmond, VA. He was one of eight siblings born to the late Whirley Gregory Sr. and Lillian Smith Gregory. He was educated in the Chesterfield County Public School System.
From a young age, he was rooted in faith and became a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. He later joined First Morning Star Baptist Church after moving to Gloucester, VA. There, he served faithfully as a deacon and sang in the choir.
Clyde retired from the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably during the
Vietnam War. Following his military career, he worked as a bricklayer and in warehouses before venturing into entrepreneurship and establishing a real estate company with his late wife, Joan Gregory.
In his leisure, he could often be found fishing from his pier, watching westerns and action movies, or enjoying time with his family and friends. He loved to travel, explore new countries, go on cruises, and take road trips in his RV.
He was known for his warm smile, fun loving personality, and no-nonsense attitude. He brought laughter and joy to those around him while always speaking honestly and with conviction. These qualities made him deeply loved and respected by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his brothers Whirley Gregory Jr, Leon Gregory, and Jackie Gregory; sister Louise Gregory; and his wives Joan Gregory and Lorraine Gregory.
He leaves behind his son Wayne Gregory (Constance); devoted daughter Waynette Gregory, grandsons John, Phillip, and Mark; devoted granddaughter Monique Gregory (Josiyah); brothers Wilbur Gregory, Leroy Gregory (Ann), and James Gregory; devoted friend Yolanda Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family
The repast will be immediately after the funeral at the Bon Air Community Association, and his burial will be at 10am on Monday September 22nd at the Amelia Veterans Cemetery.
