Desire D. Barnes

Desire Barnes was born on February 11, 1985, in Richmond, Virginia, to Katherine and the late Herbert Carter Sr. On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, our beloved Desire gained her heavenly wings.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Carter Sr.; brother, Herbert Louis Carter Jr.; sister, Alisha Romaine Carter; niece, Nova Reign Fairley; grandmother, Mary P. Barnes; and cousin, Tyrone Lamont Feggins Jr.

Desire grew up in Richmond and touched countless lives with her warmth, humor, and compassion. She discovered her passion early on doing hair. What started as a simple hobby became her purpose. She loved making others feel beautiful and confident, and her clients quickly became family. Desire's hands created more than hairstyles; they spread love, laughter, and self-esteem to everyone who sat in her chair.

She was educated in the Richmond Public School System and gave her life to Christ at a young age, attending Crusade for Christ. Desire's faith guided her, and her love for her family and community was felt by all who knew her.

To know Desire was to love her. She was outgoing, hilarious, and full of light. Her smile could brighten any day, and her energy made every room she entered come alive.

She leaves behind her loving children, Kany'Jawon and Jer'Riya; her devoted mother, Katherine Carter; eight sisters, Ieshia, Kerondra, Sharonda, Zakariya, Makayla, Shelby, Debra, and Shawaan; four brothers, Stephen, Trevon, Dominique, and Mark; two aunts, Karolyn and Virgina; a devoted friend Alexander Ross and a host of uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her deeply but celebrate her beautiful spirit forever.
