Dorothy Lucille Booker, 84, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away in her home on Monday, July 11, 2022. She was born on September 12, 1937,\nin Richmond's Southside. She had two brothers, Sherwood and Sylvester Booker. Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early\nage and attended Zion Baptist Church. She attended Maggie Walker High School. She married Lester York, Sr., and through that union they had nine children. Judy King (Robert), Linda, Michael, Melody Minor (Bruce) Lester, Jr., Wendoll (Cheryl), Tonya Corbin, Warren and Demetri.\nDuring her youth and early adult years she played tennis, volunteered to participate in a parent group for the Headstart Pilot Program in\nRichmond public schools, and substitute taught at Fairfield Elementary School. She later work at McGuire Veterans Hospital and Johnston Willis\nHospital in the home health field. Dorothy enjoyed event planning and especially decorating Zion Baptist Church for special events. She assisted\nwith the food giveaways for the needy at the church. She truly loved the beach, sitting at the waterside, eating out, and spending time with her life-long friend, Marie Butler. Her favorite daily routine was playing the lottery: Mega Millions, Power Ball, and scratch-offs. She actually won a lot of money, too! Always excited when spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren telling them, "I love you a bushel and a peck". Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Emma Booker Dabney, brothers, Sherwood and Sylvester Booker, and son, Lester York, Jr.(Rusty/Gefo). She leaves behind her children, Judy (Tina), Linda, Melody, Michael, Wendoll (Joseph), Tonya, Warren (Pee Wee), and Demetri (Boss); three stepsons, Wayne McClain and Rudy and Weldon Smith; twelve grandchildren, Lamont Finn, Bianca Spurlock, Lovey Simmons, Ashley\nNero, Brandon Brown, Brittany York, Michael Tyler York, Victoria York, Chenell York, Xavier Cooper, Dion York, and Keisha Entzminger, seven\ngreat-grandchildren, Jordan Finn, Trenton Finn, Landon Finn, Daniel Waller, Brennan Green, Marcus and Olivia Simmons; and a host of other\nrelatives and friends, including her best friend, Marie Butler. Special acknowledgements to Sam Graham, Katrina Pascal (Luv My\nHair Salon), Ruth Harrell, Patricia Young, James Green (Junie) and Olivia Rolinski for assisting and supporting our mother in her latter\nyears.\n\nA celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 Mimms Chapel at 12:00PM. Interment Maury Cemetery.
