Eldridge Lorenza Townes, was born on December 18th, 1952 to the late Leon Henderson Townes Sr. and Mary Harris Townes in Richmond, Virginia. He departed this life on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020 at St. Francis Medical Center. Lorenzo, as he was called, was baptized and was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he served as an Usher and sang in the Men's choir. Lorenzo loved his church; his church family and enjoyed attending Sunday School, Church Services and the Senior Ministry fellowships on Fridays. He attended Hening School and participated in various workshops with Chesterfield County. Lorenzo worked at Pizza Hut in Midlothian where he was recognized for 10 years of service with an Award Certificate. His favorite sport to watch was wrestling and he looked forward to watching WWF Monday Night Raw every Monday night at 8:00. Lorenzo also enjoyed watching Westerns such as Gunsmoke, Big Valley and Rifleman. He loved to eat and he enjoyed food and fellowship at the table. Lorenzo always wore a smile; was friendly and kind; and he was sure to speak to and shake the hand of anyone he met. His presence will be greatly missed by his family, church family and all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Madeline P. Johnson and Mary B. Clarke and his brothers Leon H. Townes Jr. and Charles O. Townes. He leaves to cherish his memory: his sisters, Mary F. Johnson, Mabel V. Cooper (Rev. Dr. Howard) and Dorothy T. Smith and brothers, John S. Townes Sr. and Rev. Herbert C. Townes (Emma). He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, one devoted niece Miranda V. Cooper. The family is grateful to Almighty God for Lorenzo and how God used him to bring light into the lives of so many. For all who cared for Lorenzo and the many caregivers God had in place to care for him, particularly during his failing health, the family is truly thankful. Loving acknowledgements of faithful siblings Mary F. Johnson and Mabel V. Cooper; the Mount Sinai Baptist Church Family; Reverend Shirley Eggleston of Towerlight Faith Center; Dr. Sharon Joseph; Dr. NiBlack; Sonya from Wound Care; the Staff of St. Francis Medical Center and Bon Secours Hospice; Chesterfield Rescue Squad Service; Case Managers and Care Facilitators Frances Schiavone, Amy Bravo, and Karen Wright; and Caregivers from the staff of Faithful Servants, Debbie, Lisa and Justin as well as faithful caregivers from the family.
