Elizabeth B. Moon

Elizabeth Beatrice Cunningham Moon, affectionately known as "Liz," or "Bessie," received her call from God on Sunday, May 19, 2019 and suddenly moved from her earthly home to eternal rest.

Born on March 23, 1929, Bessie is the oldest daughter of the late Edmonia Green and James Monroe Frye. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rozier Coleman and her brother Clarence Frye, and three of her twelve children, Ethel, Herbert and Maurice Cunningham. She acknowledged the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior early in life and became a lifelong member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church,

Bessie was formerly married to the late McKinley Cunningham, and on July 24, 1999, she was joined in holy matrimony to Roy Moon.

Bessie was educated in the public school systems of Richmond, VA and Chesterfield County, and later studied nursing, retiring from McGuire Veterans Hospital with over 20 years of service.

Bessie really loved her family and has always loved caring for people, and she was very creative. A gardener at heart, she loved cultivating plants and tending her garden just to enjoy it's beauty. She enjoyed reading and sharing stories with her children and encouraged them to do the same. She was very opinionated and when she spoke it was like E. F. Hutton, everybody listened.

Bessie was a fashionable dresser. She loved the color RED. You could always find her outfit matching, from head to toe. Just a few years ago, she still stepped out in 6 inch heels. She taught her family to always carry themselves in a dignified manner.

Bessie leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Roy Moon; nine children, Vaughan Cunningham (Jean), Theresa Bailey, Faith Goodall (James), Sterling Cunningham (Carolyn), Lisa Shelton, Gregory Cunningham, Jon Cunningham (Gloria), Tracey Cunningham, and Paul Cunningham. 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 5 great great-grandchildren; 1 stepson, Allan Moon; 3 stepdaughters, Pamela Saunders, Challott Burgess, and Pheobe Moon; two brother in-laws, Frank Moon (Gwen), and Ivry Moon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Remains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull St. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 12 Noon at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, 2600 Gravel Hill Rd. Reverend Louis G. Jones, Pastor. Interment Church Cemetery.
