Gladys Maude Samuels Hill, Fondly known as Mama, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023, in Richmond Virginia at the age of 98. Although she believed to have been 103 years old at the time of her passing, her birth certificate had incorrect information, which records her age as 98.She was bornin the parish of Hanover, in a small district of Askenish, and later moved to Jericho Jamaica. Gladys was born to Louise Gayle and Uriah Samuels. \n Ms. Gladys is preceded in death by her loving husband, Elisha Hill, Two sons Glasford and Vernon Hill, Two sisters; Ethilda and Nora Scarlette. Gladys leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories; she is survived by her two daughters: Ellen Brown (Obediah) and Janet Hill, two sons: Errol Hill ( Melinda) and Coral Hill, one brother Roland Scarlette, and two sisters, Advirah Campbell and Estora Brown. She was also blessed with 21 grandchildren, over 50 great and great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews across the world.\nGladys was an honest and hardworking housewife and who loved her family. \nShe enjoyed farming and planting, she planted pigon peas, red peas, yams, and pumpkins, she also raised goats and chickens. She would sell her crops at the market in Montego Bay to support her family. She was a faithful member of the Brownsville United Presbyterian Church where she participated in the women's Guild Ministry and supported the Annual rally and harvest for the church.
