Ms. Gloria Ann Anderson (nee Dean), 76, of Richmond, Virginia (formerly of Dayton, Ohio), departed this life on January 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Gloria joined St. John’s Baptist Church as a child, where she first developed her enduring faith. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1966 and attended Sinclair Community College. Early in her career, she worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where she developed a strong work ethic that defined her professional life.
In 1993, Gloria and her family relocated to Richmond, Virginia. There, she dedicated herself to public service, working for several state government agencies before joining the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI). She retired from DOLI in 2018, leaving a legacy of excellence and lifelong friendships. During her time there, Gloria discovered her love for line dancing, which brought her immense joy and countless cherished memories.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church of South Richmond, Gloria lived her faith through action. She passionately served in the Clothing Ministry, Greeter’s Ministry, and Childcare Ministry, touching the lives of many with her kindness and generosity. Her unwavering commitment to her church and community inspired all who knew her.
Gloria had a lifelong passion for sports, especially the WNBA, and enthusiastically supported women’s athletics. Whether cheering from the stands or watching from home, her love for sports was contagious and brought her great happiness.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son, Christopher D. Anderson (Melinda); four beloved grandchildren, Makeda Anderson (Ronald) and Doriauna Anderson (Ronald) of Richmond, VA, and Ashley Anderson (Christopher) and Caleb Anderson (Christopher) of Chesapeake, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever remember her warmth, grace, and strength.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and Gladys M. Dean; her brother, Stanley L. Dean; and her son, Ronald S. Anderson. Though she is no longer with us, her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all blessed to know her.
