Grace Ann Steed

–

Richmond, VA

Grace Ann Steed, age 76, of 2204 Edwards Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23224, gained her angel wings on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Johnston Willis Hospital after a brief but serious illness. Grace was born on June 29, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia to David and Maggie Steed. Grace accepted Christ at an early age and joined Zion Baptist Church of South Richmond on the third Sunday in June 1955. Grace was an active member, worshipper, and leader within the church until her demise. She served on the Greeters Ministry and lead for several years. She actively participated in two choirs at Zion Baptist Church and briefly with the Senior Praise Dancers. In addition, she participated in weekly Bible Study. Grace had a great reverence for military personnel and service and was instrumental in establishing an annual Veteran's Day Program at Zion Baptist Church. Grace was educated through the Richmond school system. She attended Blackwell until junior high school and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1962. Grace went on to attend business school, a government sponsored workforce program, and studied college coursework at Virginia Commonwealth University. Grace held several jobs where each one served as a spring board to more success. She retired from the Virginia Employment Commission in a leadership position as Supervisor. Grace's favorite activities included morning prayer with Mrs. Carolyn Fowlkes, spending time with her daughter, gardening, serving, and doing anything artistic. Grace was a loving daughter, mother, sister, godmother, friend, cousin, and niece who will be greatly missed to so many she supported, inspired, motivated, and touched in a meaningful way. We are resigned to the will of the Almighty God. She is survived by: her devoted daughter, Cynthia Steed; sister, Carolyn Steed; brother and sister-in-law, David and Rita Steed of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two aunts, Betty Hinton of Richmond, VA and Ada Steed of Manhattan, NY; and the Tetteh children, Isaac, Laude Vincent, Erich, Seth, Barbara, Lucy, Gloria, and Gifty; as well as a host of other relatives and close friends. Grace was a wonderful, warm, positive, and talkative spirit who never met a stranger. Her personality was soothing, comforting, and supportive. Grace was in a category all of her own. She was some kind of special.

Graveside service will be held Monday, July 6, 2020 Mt. Olivet Cemetery 11:00am.
