Hattie M. Gravely Obituary (1939 - 2021)

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Hattie Gravely. Hattie transitioned peacefully in the comfort of her home on March 22, 2021. Hattie was eighty-one (81) at the time of her death. Hattie Alonzo was born on August 5, 1939 in Harlem New York to Hattie Jackson of New York and William Alonzo of South Carolina. Hattie was the youngest girl of seven (7) siblings. Hattie was introduced to Obie Gravely, Jr. of Martinsville, Virginia in 1976, and he became the love of her life. Through that union, Hattie and Obie were blessed with two children, Lakisha and Obie III. In addition to her children Kevin, Lakisha, and Obie III (fiancee, Ayesha), Hattie Gravely is survived by two granddaughters, Victoria and Layla (Lakisha) and one grandson Lathan (Obie III). Hattie also leaves behind four loving sisters-in-law, cousins, friends and a host of nephews, and nieces. Hattie will be missed by all, rest well!!! A memorial service will be held at the church Hattie attended, Second Baptist Church, 3300 Broad Rock Blvd., Richmond, VA at 3:30 PM on March 28, 2021. The Interment will take place at Virginia Veteran's Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd., Amelia Court House, VA at 3:00 PM on March 30, 2021. Due to COVID-19 protocols in Virginia, only family can attend the memorial service. There will not be a repast. In lieu of flowers, any love offering will be received at the family home at 7406 Kirkwall Drive, Richmond, VA 23235.
