Helen L. Johnson

Helen Louise Johnson, affectionately known as “Honey”, was born on December 17, 1940 to David Brimley and Jessie Mae Ward as one of sixteen children in Ahoskie, North Carolina.

Honey relocated to Richmond, Virginia in her late teen years and established a life and career as a waitress. It was here in Richmond that she met and married her late husband Stanley Johnson Sr. ,and together, they started their own custodial service business in the late 1990’s. She tirelessly worked side by side with him for many years helping build their business. Then, after her husband Stanley became disabled Honey became his sole caretaker until his passing.

Honey was loving, genuine and selfless; and all who knew her knew that she would do anything for anyone. She was committed to helping those who needed her and would even stop what she was personally doing to do so. Honey really loved people, loved God, and believed that he was always watching her.

Honey loved to play cards, watch Madea movies and plays, and spend time with friends and family. She was such a jovial soul and loved to laugh. Her most enjoyable moments were gathering with friends and family at our iconic Family Reunions, sporadic lunches with friends, and get-togethers that involved sharing meals.

Honey is survived by her three children: Shelia, Helena, and Stanley Jr.; five grandchildren: Tarshell, Tiffany, Shequita, Starshell, and Lakilya; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to all of the family members and friends that she so dearly loved, laughed, and did life with, she leaves five siblings to cherish her memory: Doris Otey, Mary Ward-Givens, Charlie Ward, Marion Ward, and Aida Ward.

Loved ones that preceded her in death: Stanley Johnson Sr., her husband, and siblings: Bernice, Lula, Margaret, Mildred, Gladys, Ella Mae, Clarence, Robert, Jesse, Edward, and James.

Family and friends meant the world to her and she was definitely as her nickname stated: Sweet As Honey!
