Richmond, Virginia
Henry Jacob Hicks, Jr., lovingly known as "Pops," passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His strength, resilience, and unwavering love for his family will forever remain a part of all who knew him.
Henry was born on November 3, 1946, to the late Henry Sr. and Ethel Hicks. He was the second of eight children and grew up in the historic Churchill area of Richmond, where he formed lifelong friendships and memories. He was preceded in death by his siblings Roland, Joyce Hicks, and Avita Goode, as well as his beloved son, Reginal Hicks "Peanut".
A proud graduate of Armstrong High School, Henry went on to build a dedicated career with Philip Morris USA, where he faithfully worked for 32 1/2 years before retiring in 2011. He took great pride in providing for his family and was respected for his strong work ethic and steady presence. Henry had a passion for baseball, working on cars, and singing - music truly fed his soul. Luther Vandross was his idol, and he could often be found singing along to his favorite songs. Known for his gift of conversation, Henry never net a stranger. His warm personality, quick smile, and natural ability to make others feel welcome made him unforgettable.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of 35 years, Lillian Hicks; his children; Andre (Shawn), Christopher (Jessica) and Patricia Clay; and his bonus children, Edward Harris, Marilyn and Carolyn Hewitt and Sheila Brooks. He is also survived by his siblings Jackie Hall (preceded in death by Pete), Sandra Balbosia, Marvin Hicks and Wayne Hicks; his sister-in-Law Theresa Brown (preceded in death by Bubba), and Anne Matthews (Anthony). Henry also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Henry's laughter, storytelling, and loving spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. The memories shared, the lessons taught, and the love he gave freely will continue to live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
