Jackie Gregory Obituary

On the morning of March 27, 2023, God with His infinite wisdom called home our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Jackie Samuel “Jack” Gregory in his home with his wife and daughter by his side.

Jackie was the youngest of eight siblings and was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 29, 1949, to the late Whirley Gregory Sr. and Lillian Smith Gregory. He was educated in the Chesterfield County Public School system. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Bon Air, Virginia and loved to sing in the choir and with the male chorus.

Jackie retired from Pohlig Brothers Boxing company. In his past time, he loved to watch football on Sundays with his favorite team being the Arizona Cardinals. He also enjoyed watching games shows, TV Judge court shows and sitting in his man cave. He cherished all the time he could spend with family, that created memories that truly lasted in his heart. Everyone knew him as a man of few words and a stoic man. He touched many lives over the years. He was an inspiration to his nephew Paul when he was younger. Paul stated he was the first professional man he knew that wore suits every day during his employment at Thalhimer’s many years ago.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his daughter Sylvia C. Gregory, brothers Whirley Gregory Jr, Leon Gregory, and his sister Louise Gregory Brooks.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his devoted wife Altena T. Gregory of 52 years, devoted daughter Kathy Lawrence, devoted grandson Mark A. Lawrence Jr., devoted brothers Wilbur Gregory, Leroy Gregory (Ann), James Gregory, Clyde Gregory and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
