James Douglas “JD” Whitaker was born November 20, 1940 in Enfield, NC and passed on September 15, 2023 at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pennie Whitaker; siblings Richard Lewis, Elie Whitaker, Aaron Whitaker, Rayfield Whitaker, Jim Whitaker, John Whitaker, Mary B . Higgs, Amy V. Jones, and Rosalee Williams. H\nJD attended North Carolina public schools, graduating from Inborden High School in Enfield, NC. He joined Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Enfield, NC at an early age. After graduating from high school he relocated to Richmond, Virginia for work. He worked for several companies in various positions before settling on sales as his choice of profession. As a salesman, he worked for Life of Georgia Insurance Company, Heiligh-Meyers Furniture Company, Luskin's Incorporated, Mattress Discounters and sold real estate. JD was an avid reader, lover of art, music, black history, and a wine connoisseur. He became a member of Evans-Newkirk Lodge #1746, Fayetteville, NC.\nHe traveled many places during his lifetime, expanding his knowledge of the world we live in.\n\nHe is survived by his children Sherwood W. Moore (Linda), James D. Whitaker, Jr. , Christopher Whitaker, Air Force retired Master Sergeant Erma A. Anderson-Moore, and Shawn M. Whitaker; grandchildren Stewart J. Woodson, Sherwanda L. Moore, Brittany M . Harris, Shalisha A. Whitaker, Monricoh D.C. Whitaker, James D. Whitaker III, Najah E. Whitaker, and Brandy J. Whitaker; great grandchildren Shaniya R. Pollard, Jah’Mari Peace, Monricoh D. C. Whitaker, Jr. , Malayah D.C. Whitaker, and Million D.C. Whitaker; devoted niece Joyce “Cookie” Jones, sister-in-law Evelyn Whitaker, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
