On Monday, February 2, 2026, Jean Carolyn Spencer, affectionately known as “Pune,” passed away at the age of 60. She was born on September 3, 1965, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Roy and Fannie Spencer. Jean was one of ten siblings
Jean was educated in the Richmond Public School system and attended Armstrong High School. A proud Richmond native, she carried strength, resilience, and determination throughout her life.
Jean was a hard worker and a true freelancer—independent, resourceful, and capable beyond measure. She had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything, often with nothing more than a roll of duct tape and her determination to make it work. She could clean like nobody else, put things together, restore order, and create solutions where none seemed obvious. Jean was widely known as the mastermind behind the long-running “Knob and Pune Corporation,” the quiet (and sometimes comical) force ensuring everything ran smoothly and always came together.
She shared a devoted life partnership with Marvin James (“Knob”), whose love and companionship were a constant presence in her life.
Jean was a loving and dedicated mother to Daytoria Durant (Jemil) and Rashell Spencer, and a proud grandmother to Takayla Warrick (“KK”), Claude Coles III (“Lil C”), and Lyriq Neville, who brought her immeasurable joy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Thomas(Carolyn) and Roy Spencer, and her sister Ruby Jones (Michael).
To cherish her memory as she rests in eternal peace, she leaves six sisters: Vivian Robinson (Clifford), Erma Pettiford (Juan), Gloria Allen (Wonnell), Wincie James (Clyde), Sharon Spencer (Lawrence), and Tangela Blantch (Timothy), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jean will be remembered for her strength, ingenuity, and the steady way she held things together for those she loved. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the problems she solved, and the family she cherished.
