Josephine Branch

Josephine Edith Branch affectionately known as Edith, was born on March 26, 1934 and transitioned this life on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at home at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Branch, grandson; Marcus Simms and siblings; Vermel, Deloris, Rufus, and Marian.

Edith was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina and graduated from Burke High School. She relocated to Richmond, Virginia after graduating from high school at the age of 18. She met Robert (Mutt) Branch and they were married on October 8, 1957.

She was a former member of First Union Baptist Church, where she was very active, serving on the Usher Board for many years.

She later joined Solid Rock Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Richard Johnson.

Edith had a strong work ethic. She worked several jobs making sure her children and home were cared for. She was employed at Worldwide Spa and the YWCA. She and Mutt also had their own janitorial services for many years. Later Edith became a Certified Medical Assistant and worked in that field for many years.

Edith is survived by her children; Elaine Vaughan, Sherry Hunter, Gayle Branch, Robert Branch 3rd, Angie Branch(devoted daughter and caregiver) and Keith Branch; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild; one sister; Edna Grimball, two brothers-in-laws; William (Rebecca) and Melvin Branch,

one sister-in-law, Nancy Mashore, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
