It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lecomus "Butch" William Sherrod age 71 of Chesterfield, VA, who passed away suddenly on May 23, 2022. He had a passion for education and helping others. He attended school K-12 in Portsmouth, VA. After graduating high school, he furthered his education at Virginia Union University, where he played basketball for the Panthers and received his Bachelor of Social Work. After graduating college, he moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he received his Master of Social Work from Wayne State University. He worked for years in the Detroit School system as a Clinical Social Worker. He returned to Virginia in 2000 and lived in Richmond, where he continued his passion as a Case Manager with the Trauncy Unit with the City of Richmond, and later as a Social Worker and also an Instructional Assistant with Henrico County Public Schools. He was currently employed at Henrico High School as an Instructional Assistant in the Exceptional Education Department working with special-needs students. After work, he dedicated his free time to coaching the boys' basketball team and helping with track meets for the Special Olympics. \n\nHe was preceded in death by his mother, Lahoma Sherrod, two brothers, James Shaw and Douglas Shaw of Portsmouth, VA. He leaves behind his oldest brother, Riddy Shaw, a dear sister-in-law, Jean Shaw, nephew, Joseph Riddy Shaw (Pearl Evans-Shaw), Dr. Xian Shaw (niece), Evan Shaw (nephew) all of Richmond, VA, and other family, friends, and colleagues.\n\nServices are private.
