Lester Grady Sr.

–

Richmond, VA

Lester Cotman Grady Sr. of Richmond, VA entered his eternal rest on October 7, 2026, at the age of 58. He was born on April 15, 1968, to the late Johnnie and Eunice Grady in Richmond.

Lester was a father, brother, uncle and friend who was loved by many.

He was a product of Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Huguenot High School in 1987. He developed a love for sports, particularly basketball and football, and was known for his competitive spirit and athletic ability.

He later attended Virginia Union University before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army. During his military service, he honorably served and attained the rank of Specialist. His dedication and service were recognized through several medals and honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Achievement Medal.

Following his honorable discharge in November 1999, Lester began working for Greyhound Bus Company, where he further developed his mechanical skills and knowledge. He generously shared his expertise with family and friends, always willing to lend a helping hand whenever he could. Whether it was fixing something or offering his skills, Lester found ways to be of service to those around him.

Lester was a member of Broomfield CME Church, where he especially enjoyed singing in the Men’s Choir. In later years, he found joy in bringing his mother, Eunice, and his son, LJ, to Sunday worship services. His faith and love for family were meaningful parts of his life.

Lester never met a stranger. His warm personality made it easy for him to turn casual conversations into lasting friendships, and he left a memorable impression on everyone he encountered. He enjoyed spending his time watching basketball and wrestling on his big-screen television, but nothing compared to his love for the Dallas Cowboys. Every Sunday during football season, you could count on Lester cheering on his favorite team.

His presence, laughter, and willingness to help others will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

In March 1992, from his previous marriage to Felicia, Lester was blessed with his eldest daughter, Jacquelin, who remained a cherished part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Eunice Grady; brother, Andre Grady (Sheila); sons, Lester “LJ” Grady Jr. and Malachi Dunbar and their mother Sherry Sanderson.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted daughter, Jacquelin “Jackie” Grady & daughter Brianna Sweet; his siblings, Johnnie Shepperson (Valerie), Linda Bonner (Wilbert), Renee Gary (the late William Gary Sr.), and Lynn Grady; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.

Though Lester’s earthly journey has ended, the love he shared and the memories he created will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love for family, and the lasting friendships he formed throughout his life. His memory will be treasured.
