GLEN ALLEN, VA
Linda Renee Spellman was born October 1, 1956, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Irvin “Mickey” Milton Brooks and Louise Lillian Gregory Brooks. On August 9, 2026, Linda peacefully entered eternal rest at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Linda excelled academically at Armstrong High School, graduating as valedictorian of her class. Linda was married for 16 years and during that union welcomed her son, Jerome, followed five years later by her daughter, Janice.
At age 46, determined to honor her parents’ wishes that she become a college graduate—and to fulfill her personal goal of graduating before her oldest grandson, Marke’l, finished high school—Linda returned to college. Just one month before his graduation, she proudly graduated magna cum laude from Liberty University with two degrees: an associate degree in accounting and a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Linda’s career spanned more than four decades and reflected her dedication, integrity, precision, and strong work ethic. She worked as a Personal Underwriter with Travelers, later became a certified Lab Technician with Via Systems, and ultimately retired as a Team Lead with Dominion Energy. She also enjoyed working overnight at Target, stocking shelves and admiring beautiful things for her home— especially anything pink!
Linda was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and lifelong member of God’s Miracle Church, where she joyfully served and supported the church throughout her life.
Family was Linda’s greatest joy. She was the devoted sister of Irvin (Carrie) and Cynthia; beloved mother of Jerome (Pam) and Janice (Nadine); bonus mother to Toni (Eric); proud grandmother of Marke’l, Jare’l, Tyler, Shy Anne, Sunny, and Amber; and adored “Tete” of Montrell, Nakeisha, Lanee, Renee, Jeffrey Jr. (“Lil Tony”), Michaela, and Makana. She was preceded in death by her parents and her youngest brother, Jeffrey “Tony” Brooks, Sr.
Linda will forever be remembered as a sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, confidant, leader, and light—a woman of grace and strength who believed deeply in faith, family, fairness, and fellowship. Her legacy of perseverance, service, strength, and love will forever live in the hearts of those she touched.
