Lucille McLeod Cheatham, 95, of Richmond, Virginia,\ndeparted this life on January 1, 2024. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family during the last days of her life. She passed peacefully from this life after a gradual decline in health. Lucille received her wings and went on to walk, no, went on to “strut” with the angels in Heaven with no facade or filters. Lucille, the “belle of the ball” is now walking around Heaven all\nday. Lucille was born in Sanford, North Carolina, on October 29, 1928, to the late Bright and Johnsie McLeod. She was the oldest of three children who preceded her in death. After moving from Sanford to Richmond, Virginia, Lucille met and married the love of her life, the late Samuel J. Cheatham of fifty-four years. From this union, two daughters, Linda and Hazel, were born. Lucille accepted Christ at an early age. Upon relocating to\nVirginia, she joined and became a devoted member of the AME Ebenezer Methodist Church, where she served faithfully. In the more recent years, she went on to fellowship and joined First Baptist Church of South Richmond. Lucille attended Hickory Hill and Carver High School and upon graduation and sometime thereafter, worked at the Albermarle Paper Company. She later went on to work at the Medical College of Virginia for over twenty-five years. It would be wrong to say that Lucille lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was determined to keep up the fight and her faith no matter how she felt. Lucille was a champion wife and mother. Her daughters were the highlight of her life. When you saw them, they were\nalways together, with her leading the pack. She will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew her.\nLucille leaves to cherish her memories: two devoted daughters, Linda C. Luster and Hazel C. Stewart; a devoted son-in-law, Clifton L. Stewart, Sr.; devoted nephew and niece, Ernest and Mattie Courtney; cousins, Ann and Jimmy Presley; a compassionate sister-in-law, Mary McLeod; devoted grandson, Trevon Stewart; and a host of other grandchildren, loved ones, other relatives, and friends.
