Richmond, Virginia
On January 12, 2025, Marshall Delano Tucker, Sr., entered into eternal rest after a short illness. Born on October 20, 1951 to Mollie Ann Tucker and Thomas Lee Tucker, Marshall grew up on Chicago Avenue in Richmond, Virginia. He shared a close bond with his family, especially his older brother, Marcellus “Pee Wee” Tucker, and his younger sister Cheryl Tucker. Marshall graduated from Armstrong High School and attended Virginia Commonwealth University. Marshall and Brenda Lewis were joined in holy matrimony and out of that union, MaShawn (Steve Simpson) of Lauderdale by The Sea, Florida, and Marshall, Jr. (Lauren) of Richmond, VA, were born.
Marshall was known for his warm and generous spirit. Whether lending a helping hand to a neighbor, offering a listening ear to a friend, or lighting a room with his infectious smile, he had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, valued, heard, and loved. He was a devoted father, grandfather, husband, mentor, and friend, as well as a cherished member of the Richmond community. Marshall found joy in traveling with family, golfing with his golf buddies, and supporting individuals in their addiction recovery efforts.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Marshall loved watching sports, including the NFL, NBA, college athletics, and his grandchildren’s athletic events and played sports himself. In 1968, while a student at Armstrong High School, Marshall scored the winning basket against John Marshall High at the Richmond Arena in one of the first integrated basketball games in Richmond’s history – a moment he proudly cherished throughout his life.
Marshall retired after more than 25 years with Quebecor Printing. Following his retirement, he pursued his calling to support others in recovery. He worked as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist with the McShin Foundation, counseling individuals in the Henrico County Jail and Pamunkey Regional Jail Systems. He also served on the Foundation’s board of directors. Marshall was a faithful member of Saint Paul’s Baptist Church, where he served on the Council and as Treasurer for the Men Following Christ Program.
Marshall leaves in grief his wife, Brenda Lewis Tucker, his children, his sister, Cheryl Tucker, his brother, Marcellus Tucker (Francis), his sister-in-law, Cheryline Lewis, his brother-in-law, Larry Roberts, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Leroy Bo Jones.
