Richmond, Virginia
Mary Frances Norwood was born on November 13, 1932, in
Halifax, Virginia, to Mary and Willie Brown. She received her public
education in the city of Richmond and was later employed by the state
of Virginia as a pharmaceutical medical technician at MCV Hospital.
She later retired from that position at the age of 65.
She was a dedicated mother whose first priority was always the needs
and welfare of her children, and she worked tirelessly to achieve that
goal. Mary was full of life and enjoyed meeting new people and making
them feel at home. She loved spearheading family reunions at Forest
Hill Park just so family could stay in touch. She was very fashionable
and had a hat for every outfit. Playing cards and bingo, game shows,
and Judge Judy were some of her favorite pastime activities. She also
was a dedicated member of New Cannon Baptist Church, where she
enjoyed the teachings of Reverend Blakely. She lived the last two years
of her life being happy and stress free, meeting new friends, and
dressing like the diva that she was.
On December 25, 2024, Mary was called home. She is survived by
her daughters, Mary Henderson and Wendy Watkins; son, Robert
Winbush; grandchildren, Michele Anderson, Metese Kelly, Ivy
Watkins, and Shea Hargrove; six great-grandchildren; two devoted
nieces, Barbara Carldwell and Constance Wells; and a host of other
relatives and friends.
