Matthew Darnell Warren Jr.

–

North Chesterfield, Virginia

With loving hearts, we celebrate the life and cherish the memory of Matthew Darnell Warren, Jr., warmly known as "Pop" or "Poppa" by his family and "Redd" or "Reddman" throughout Virginia and the Bronx, New York.

Matthew was a hard worker who enjoyed being a truck driver. His passion for his job allowed him to serve in that profession for almost 40 years. He often shared with Michelle, his fiancee' that "driving cleared his mind."

Matthew loved his family. His three sons, Darnell Warren, Darren Warren and Timothy Scott, his mother, Geraldine and his dad Matthew, Sr. He was proud to be a "girl dad" for his "baby girl Qua", Equashia Warren.

Matthew had a special relationship with his siblings, especially his biological sister, Tonya who described Matthew as her protector. He was also blessed to have many foster brothers and sisters, nephews, nieces and other extended family members.

Matthew was simply "Michelle's honey. They celebrated being an extension of each other lives for more than 15 years. Michelle said that knowing that he was on his way home still gave her "butterflies", because he was "her person". She could be with Matthew 24/7 and never get tired of his jokes, teasing, or sense of humor. Matthew lovingly called Michelle his "Boo la" or "Boo" depending on whether she had his food ready to eat. They both enjoyed eating a good meal and Matthew especially enjoyed steak and seafood.

Matthew was known to observe everything around him, and at first glance Matthew appeared to have a hard shell, but his actions demonstrated that he had a caring and loving spirit.

Matthew embraced Michelle's family and enjoyed many laughs with her Uncle Willie. He was also a great "big brother" to Michelle's sister Breyona and her biggest cheerleader when she played various sports. Matthew and Breyona's bond grew even stronger with their similar appreciation for music. Matthew enjoyed listening to all genres of music especially the lyrics to Rap music and Reggae music.

Matthew could relate to those struggling, which is probably why he always wanted to help others. After the pandemic he was inspired to help even more people who were struggling, whether a coworker or someone stranded when their car broke down. He was always willing to help a female in distress. He could not see anyone stranded and not offer to help. He was truly a "Good Samaritan". This caring spirit included children and animals. Once, after seeing a dog hit by a car, he stayed with the injured animal until help arrived.

Matthew was spontaneous! He loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and watching sports games while wearing his NY Mets cap as a tribute to his hometown.

Michelle's love for Matthew grew even stronger after he saw her praying and wanted to know how to pray. Michelle loving told him to," just talk to God", just like he was talking to others and that he did not have to pray like anyone else. Now that's love!

Although, no longer with us in body, Matthew's love, legacy and memories will remain forever in our hearts.
