Nelson Donnie Brown, Sr., of Chesterfield, Virginia, peacefully\ntransitioned into eternal life on August 23, 2023, with the comfort of\nhis family at his side. He was born on January 19, 1960, in Chesterfield,\nVirginia, to the late Allie P. Harris, Sr., and Evelyn G. Brown.\nDonnie accepted Christ at an early age at Chicago Baptist Church on\nChicago Avenue in Richmond, Virginia, where he was raised. He often\nreference his late grandfather Emitt Gill’s words of wisdom and biblical\nteachings.\nDonnie attended Richmond public schools. He worked various jobs\nbefore retiring from Philip Morris USA (Altria CO) after thirty years of\nemployment. He was affectionately known as “Sugaman.”\nDonnie had many talents, one being able to interpret scripture in a way\nthat one could understand. He had a love for children, nature, the Solar\nSystem, and animals. He would often say “Isn’t God something.” He\nenjoyed a good thunderstorm or snowstorm, and loved a good rain.\nDonnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, race cars, and\ntalking politics. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and often expressed\nhow “they ain’t never going anywhere with that coach.” Donnie loved\na “hot” cup of coffee and his ginger tea. He spent his last days talking\nwith his family members expressing his love for them. Donnie loved his\ngrandchildren and often expressed how he regretted not being able to\nhunt and fish with them. Donnie was the “life of the party.”\nDonnie leaves to cherish his memories: a loving family; his loving wife of\nthirty-four years, Jennell R. Brown; three children, Donnie Brown, Jr.,\nDevon J. Brown, and Chelsea J. Maurice (Donald); five grandchildren,\nLorenzo Brown, Donnie Brown III, Lyric Brown (his “Chocolate Frog”),\nJosiah Maurice, Donald Maurice IV; siblings, Thelma Branch, Florine\nPollard, Minnie Johnson (Norman), Marva Bennett, Horace Percel\nBrown, Eula Battle, Rose Tabb, Reverend Theresa Mason (Charles),\nEvelyn Berry (Jerry), Alice Pegram (MIT) (Kenneth), Evangelist Inga\nHenry (Larry), Larry Brown (Sheree), Allie Harris, Jr. (Joyce), Evangelist\nCarolyn Lewis (Edward), Annie Pettiford (deceased), Norma Williams,\nRicky Williams, Bridgette Williams, Yvette Harris, Stephanie Williams,\nNatalie Harris, Doris Harris, Kenneth Harris, and George Tucker;\nmother-in-law, Barbara A. Bullock; and numerous loving nieces,\nnephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
