Peggy C. Kelly (Lady Bug) departed this life peacefully on September 20, 2016. She resided with her Son in Law Gerald Blunt and her Daughter Maxine K. Blunt. She was born March 13, 1926 in Washington, DC to the Late Christine Wilkes. She was adopted at a young age by the Late Robert & Julia Carter of Ashland, VA. She was preceded in death by several adoptive siblings; her husband the Late Sgt. Leroy L. Kelly Sr., two daughters the Late Margie R. McCann, Margaret E. Kelly and one son the Late Dean W. Kelly. \n\nPeggy was educated at Gandy High School in Ashland, VA. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized into the fellowship at Union Baptist Church Ashland, VA. She married the Late Sgt. Leroy L. Kelly Sr., traveled the world and later resided in Richmond, VA. Five children were born from this union. Two children were adopted into this loving family. Peggy and Leroy Sr. later joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church of Richmond, VA. She served faithfully for many years as a Deaconess and in various organizations of the church. She recently rejoined the fellowship of her beloved Union Baptist Church. She faithfully worshipped there until the time of her passing.\n\nPeggy loved and was passionate about God, family and serving her community. She was employed as a domestic and lovingly cared for and blessed many families throughout her life. To know Peggy was to love her. She was lovingly and fondly called Nana by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was also a surrogate mother and Nana too many. She was extremely loyal and a firm disciplinarian giving correction when needed. She spoke her mind but was always loving and kind. \n\nShe leaves to cherish her memories her devoted children. Two Sons; Donald Lucas (Delores); Leroy Kelly Jr.; Two Daughters; Mrs. Maxine K. Blunt (Gerald), Mrs. Dalemarie Andrews (Allen). One Son In Law- Robert McCann; Twelve Grandchildren; Reginald, Donald Jr., Yvette, Lynwood Sr., Leslie, Miisha, Jessica, Dennis Jr., Ashley Sr., Peggy (Devoted Care Giver), Whitney, Zenesha (James), Lorenzo, Jai'maree. Thirty-One Great Grandchildren; One Great-Great Grandchild; One Devoted Sister In Law; Ann Wright; One Aunt; Viola Wilkes, One God Daughter Sparkle. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Devoted family members; Monica Johnson, Ella Winfree, June Briggs and Elder Felecia J. Coleman.\n\nVisitation will be Friday, September 30, 2016 Mimms Chapel from 6 to 7PM.\nFuneral service will be Saturday, October 1, 2016 Union Baptist Church 310 N. Snead Street. 2:00PM.
