Peyton Johnson, Jr. Obituary (1949 - 2023)

Peyton F. Johnson, Jr., was born on January 9, 1949, to the late Peyton F. and Shirley Johnson. He was preceded in death by his sister Karen Johnson. After battling an illness, he passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023, in the care of his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years Bessie Johnson, sons Reginald and Dana Johnson. Two brothers Bradley and Charles Johnson. Seven grandchildren Jazmyn (Sugarpie), Reginald Jr., Larenz, Briana, Markel, Anthony and Amber. Two daughter in-laws Tammi and Kim Johnson. Fifteen great grandchildren. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He owned his first trumpet at fourteen this greatly influenced his love for music. He played with many groups, The Catalinas, Jokers Wild, Smash Machine, and Poison who released an album, appeared on Soul Train and toured with the Average White Band, The Granduers, The Carlton Ayles Sextet, Smooth Sensation, and Split Image, to name a few. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society and thanks to Gentiva Hospice for the care they provided.
