Richard "Dick" Jones was born on October 25, 1936 to the Late Matilda Hines and the Late Archie Garner. He slipped away peacefully in his sleep on the Morning of May 4, 2020.\n\nRichard was educated in the Richmond Public Schools and in 1954 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the U.S.S Tidewater where they served in Cuba, Guam, Germany, Italy and Norfolk, Va.\n\n\n\nUpon returning home, Richard entered the hospitality industry where he was a short order cook for the Jefferson Hotel and was later promoted as a Maitre d. He was a bartender for Poor Richard's Bar and Restaurant for over 12 years and was known for his bartending abilities in making the best Pina Coladas in Richmond. .He was known by many in the "Real West End of Richmond" because of his talented ability to keep a party going.\n\n\n\nRichard was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he attended church regularly and sat in his favorite spot in the church overflow until his health began to fail.\n\n\n\nThe joy of his day was watching his favorite TV Shows that were not to be interrupted; Family Feud, The Young and the Restless, Have and Have Nots, If loving You Is Wrong Judge Judy, and Scandal. He watched every re-run and every new episode every week.\n\n\n\nHe is also preceded in death by his Step-father, Theodore Hines; brother, Milton Green; daughter Rhonda Thomas, and best friend, William "Bill" Gordon\n\n\n\nHe leaves to cherish his memory his Friend and devoted caretaker, Mable Jones and their daughters Patrice Jones and Destiny White; Sons, Richard Maurice Owens;, Richard Nickens (Rozlyn) and Byron White; ten Grandchildren, Richard, Krystal, Deon, Eugene, JieLeon (his best buddy), Isis, Sajade, Wynter, Kali,Seven, and Starrie; five great- grandchildren, NaJhay, Malia, Dionne, Marquis and Enesha; one sister in love; Virginia"Ginny Cake" Green; one brother-In-Law, Charles Cook (Tink); a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins, friends and his nurse, Mary Jones of Ashland.\n\n\n\n\n\nA walk through viewing will be held Saturday, May 9, 2020 from 9:00am -6:00pm and Sunday, May 10, 2020 from 10:00am-4:00pm. Graveside service will be held Monday, May 11, 2020 Roselawn Memorial Garden at 11:00am.
