Chavis\n\nSamuel Chavis, 89, of Richmond, departed this life October 15, 2014. He was a World War II veteran in the Army/Air Force and retired from Chavis Transfer. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and four sisters. He is survived by three daughters, Carol Atkins (Sanford), Kathy Gilchrist (Ronald) and Sandra Gilliam (Eugene); one son, Bruce Chavis (Cindy); eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Eric Brandon (Katherine), Karen Ford (Nick) and Anita Brandon and their four children; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, among them a caring neighbor, Ms. Harris. \n\nRemains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull St., where the family will receive friends Monday, from 6 to 7 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 21, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. James Johnson officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. The family wishes to thank McGuire VA staff, Heritage Oaks and Danly's caregivers.
