Senior Chief Edward Leonard Jones Obituary (1976 - 2017)

Senior Chief Edward Leonard Jones peacefully transitioned from his labor to reward on August 28, 2017. He was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Susie Woolridge and Doris Jones; one grandfather, Peter Woolridge; and two uncles, Steven E. Woolridge and Lewis D. Jones. Edward was born December 8, 1976 in Richmond, Virginia. Edward attended Richmond Public Schools and graduated from George Wythe High School in 1994. He attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and the University of Maryland College Park where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1997. Edward was truly a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. For his music, he loved Beyonce; so much so that he purchased a CD for everyone in the household. Edward entered the United States Navy in 1998 and was stationed in San Diego, Calif., until his untimely death. He was a navy nuclear engineer receiving his training at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (College). He served as a MMNCS, Senior Chief Machinist's Mate. During his service he worked on the following ships: USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, USS Gerald R. Ford and USS Theordore Roosevelt. Edward received numerous awards and honors. Edward leaves to cherish his precious memories his parents, Tyrone and Valerie Jones; one loving sister, Juanita Newson; two brothers Tyrone Jones and Keith Bruce of Las Vegas, NV; six uncles, Calvin, Peter, Delbert, Alton, Keith (Terrie) Woolridge and Jeffery Jones; aunts, Antoinette Allmon (Walter), Alethia Jones; four nieces, Asia and Syria Newson, J'Niyah and Reign Jones; three nephews, Marquiese Deese, Jaheen and Jaquiese Jones; godmother, Clara Lewis; god-aunt, Wenda Robinson Mayo; and a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull St., where the family will receive friends on Friday (today) from 6-7 PM and where funeral service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
