Shanquita Robinson

–

Petersburg, Virginia

Shanquita Monica Robinson - Many of us knew her by her childhood name, “Poogie,” a name spoken with affection and warmth in the neighborhoods of Dove Court, where her journey began. As time passed and her story unfolded, she carried herself with a presence and energy that earned her a new name — “Shaba.” If you knew Shaba, then you knew strength, you knew truth, and you knew loyalty. She had that kind of spirit that couldn’t be ignored — the kind that demanded respect but gave love just as fiercely.

Shanquita’s path took her from Dove Court to Fairfield Court, and later to Petersburg, where she proudly became a homeowner — a milestone achieved through determination, grit, and a vision for something greater.

But she didn’t stop there.

Shanquita was a born entrepreneur. She started several businesses throughout her life
each one a reflection of her ambition and creativity. Her latest venture, a commercial
cleaning service, stood as a proud testament to her work ethic and leadership. With the
loyal support of two of her closest friends, Walter Jackson and Thomas Skordas, she built something truly her own — and inspired others to do the same.

Shanquita also stood on the foundation of loyalty and friendship. She surrounded herself with a circle of long-time friends who were not only constant in her life, but committed to her well-being and growth. Their love, laughter, and loyalty carried her through life’s
toughest moments and helped her celebrate the best ones. That kind of friendship is rare —and she cherished it fully.

Beyond her accomplishments and ambition, Shanquita was a mother first. Her greatest joy
came from her children:
• Spoteisha Robinson
• Kejsean Robinson
• Mohammad Saddiq Al-Malik
• Arica Bradley

She loved them with a fire that never dimmed. Every decision she made, every step she
took, was to create a better future for them.

And that love only grew deeper when she became a grandmother to:
• Cyrail Robinson
• Ava Maylan Robinson
• Fred Jones Robinson

They were her sunshine. Her pride. Her purpose renewed.
She was also a devoted sister, bonded for life with:

• Chineka Robinson
• Austasia Robinson
• Shadeka Jasper
• Michelle Johnson

Sisters not just by blood, but by heart.

She was the beloved daughter of Jacqueline Robinson and Cornelius Younger, the cherished granddaughter of Lesley Jones, and the adored niece of Lydell Robinson, who passed at the time of this writing. Shanquita carried her family name with pride — never forgetting where she came from.

To know Shanquita was to know authenticity. She didn’t sugarcoat her words. She didn’t
pretend to be something she wasn’t. She was unapologetically real — a woman who stood firm in her truth and loved hard, even harder than she fought. And she fought — oh, did she fight — through every trial with a strength that never wavered.

Though today we mourn, we also give thanks — for every moment she gave us, every
memory she created, and every lesson she lived out loud.

Poogie. Shaba. Shanquita.
No matter the name, her impact was the same:
Powerful. Lasting. And full of love.

Rest Well, Queen.
You’ve earned your peace.
Your light shines on through your children, grandchildren, siblings, loyal friends, and all of us who were blessed to know you.

We love you.
We miss you.
And we will carry your name with pride
