On September 26, 1972, in Hampton, Virginia, Tinea Joi Savage-Otey, entered this world as a joyful baby girl to Clarence and Barbara Savage. Over the course of her life, she was also a sister, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and most importantly a mother to her son, Shane. Finally, of course, she was a true friend, confidante, educator, medical caregiver, and mentor to many. Tinea was someone who inspired others in how she lived, worked, and what she accomplished.\n\nReflecting upon her early accomplishments, she graduated from Hampton High School with high honors, George Mason University with high honors, and the Medical College of Virginia with a Doctorate Degree. As a life profession, she was a Pediatrician and served as an active partner in a medical group. Most recently, she provided Outpatient Mental Health Services. As a personal interest, Tinea became an author of a published book, Pain and Perserverance.\n\nTinea was a legacy of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She joined the Omicron Rho Chapter at George Mason University on December 07, 1991. She was a member of the Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and remained active until her health began to fail. She served on a number of chapter committees and facilitated several workshops. Through her dedication to this organization and many other endeavors, she was a powerful influence in her community.\n\nFinally, Tinea was a member of the Hampton Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., which completely changed her life as a child and adult. Along with her mother and her son, they enjoyed the Jack and Jill experience. Also, Tinea was an active a member of St. Cyprian Episcopal Church throughout her entire life.\n\nTinea was preceded in death by her father, Clarence William Savage; grandmother, Mildred Burger Tynes, and grandfather Dr. Robert Davis Tynes. Her surviving living family are her mother Barbara Tynes Savage; brother Vincent Clarence Savage (Candace, Jonathan) and beloved son, Shane Elijah Otey. Her surviving relatives are her aunt and godmother Joan Tynes Mimms; cousins Mia F. Mimms, J.D., LLM (Kaesaan, Raymond III, Milan), Vickie D. Foster (Nyla) and Pastor Duane G. Foster (Tonya, Faith, Jason, Jordan). The surviving cousins of her deceased father's family are Hubert Logan, Von L. Logan (Beverly, Aaron, Kimberly), Warren J. Savage (Bernice, Nicole), Carlton Savage (Angela, Caroline, Alexis, Spencer), Stella Savage Byrd (Wade, Kai, Kirsten), and a few other relatives of the Savage and Tynes family. Also, a godmother to Savanna Anderson, daughter of David and Shannon Anderson.\n\nFinally, Tinea will always be remembered as a very special, loving, supportive daughter, sister, mother and friend! Despite her illness, she always strived to be happy and to live life to the fullest. Tinea was a true friend to many. Unknown\n\nOrganizational Memorial Services (Hampton Chapter Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated) will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at 3 PM, after which time family will receive friends at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, 1242 W. Queen St., Hampton, VA.\n\nFuneral service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 11 AM at Ivy Baptist Church, 50 Maple Ave., Newport News, VA. Viewing to be held one hour prior. Interment Hampton Memorial Park.
