Todd Allen Joyner Obituary (2024)

In the early morning of December 28, 2024, Todd Allen Joyner of Chester, Virginia, was called home by the Lord, his Saviour, Jesus Christ. He went peacefully, wrapped in the loving arms of his wife and surrounded by his beloved family, after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was joyfully reunited with his father, Levern Joyner, and his sister, Teresa “Terri” Ingram, who were called home before him. Born in Hopewell, Virginia, on June 11, 1964, Todd had immense love for his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and son. Of his many titles, his most cherished was “Pa.” His family was his life, but his grandbabies lit up his world. Todd was gifted a heart of boundless love; therefore, his family extended beyond his family tree. Todd embodied 1 John 4:19; he “loved because He first loved us.” Each person had a special place in his heart. His limitless energy, enthusiasm for life, and passion for helping others were infectious; his smile and laughter were contagious, bringing anyone from the past or present, young or old, into “his circle.”No gathering was mundane in his presence, as he ensured every interaction was worthy of celebrating. Todd’s love languages were “acts of service” and “words of affirmation.” He had an innate ability to recognize even a stranger’s need for assistance and resolve it before the recipient realized help was needed. Todd had a joyous and generous heart of thanksgiving, never missing an opportunity to tell someone how loved, appreciated, or proud he was of them. The ease with which Todd built relationships naturally led to his career in sales. In his mid-twenties, he earned a degree from ECPI in Computer Technology, thus opening the door to the commercial fire alarm industry. After years of hard work, Todd and his business partner, Joe Vaughan, had a vision and were driven to open Fire Defense Services, Inc. (FDS) in 2005. Once again, Todd’s love of family expanded to the employees, customers, and contractors of FDS. After 19 years of growth and staying true to the business’s core values, Fire Defense Services, Inc. was successfully sold to The Hiller Companies in 2023, where Todd continued to work until his diagnosis this past November. Todd’s authentic “love of family” is a hallmark feature woven into and visibly felt throughout Hiller’s Chester Branch. Todd lives on in the hearts of his loving wife Kristal Joyner, children Karleigh King (Christopher), Makaela Hayes, Kadin Hayes, and Christopher Casey (Samantha), grandchildren Lucas King and Willow King, his mother Doris Joyner, his siblings David Joyner (Mary), Donna Tucker (Scott), brother-in-law John Ingram, Godson’s Brandon Joyner and Christopher Mueller, and everyone that was blessed to have loved and been loved by him. We will honor Todd's life with an outdoor service and celebration of life. The “Celebration of Todd’s Time” will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 4 p.m. and include his memorial service, followed by live entertainment.
