Stephanie Juanita and Vernon Leo Pope, Sr. welcomed their first born, Vernon Leo Pope, Jr. on July 15, 1970. Vernon was preceded in death by his mother, Stephanie Pope Dixon, a son, JQuard Pope; grandparents, Nathaniel and Janet Holiday and Daniel Pope. On Saturday, January 29, 2022, God called His son to everlasting peace.\n \nVernon attended Antioch Church of our Lord Jesus Christ with his family under the leadership of his grandfather and Pastor, Nathaniel Holiday, Sr.\n \nVernon was affectionately called "Man" by his family and friends. He was educated in the Chesterfield Public School system. He was a proud 1988 graduate of Lloyd C. Byrd High School. Man continued his education by attending Chowan Community College, Montgomery Community College, Rockville, MD, and John Tyler Community College. He became a Certified Electrical Engineer. He was an independent contractor and could be considered a lone wolf for the jobs he accepted.\n \nVernon enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he was stationed at Parris Island, SC. He became an expert marksman. He was deployed to Saudi Arabia to take part in Operation Desert Storm. While in the Marine Corps he received several accommodations and medals. He received an honorable discharge in 1991.\n \nVernon loved his children and his family and took pride in every aspect of their lives. He often expressed how much he loved them. He always looked forward to the future and was excited about things to come. Man was an overcomer; he was a stage-4 cancer survivor.\n \nVernon leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Vernon III and Tre' Man Pope; a daughter, Taylor Pope; father, Elder Vernon Pope, Sr.; stepmother, Dr. Wanda Pope; three sisters, Quiera Moore, Kimbree Pope and Jocelyn Howell; grandmother, Evelyn Pope Clark; two great aunts, Clara Shepperson and Ora Washington; several aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews, along with a host of cousins and friends, among them Shanta Robinson and Bethenia Harvey.\n\n\n\nFuneral service will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 11 AM at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull St. Interment VA Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
