Virginia McGhee departed this life peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Chippenham Hospital. She was born on December 12, 1936 in the Alberta area of Brunswick County, Virginia to Henrietta Collier Marshall Brown and Solomon Brown, the youngest of 10 children. Her parents and eight siblings preceded her in death. She became a member of Second Baptist Church during the pastorate of Rev. Lawrence B. Samuels, serving as an honored member of the Usher Board until health issues necessitated her resignation of that position. She was married to George McGhee in 1953 and to that union four sons were born: Michael (deceased), George, Robin (deceased) and Patrick. She had later a long-term relationship with Willie Hughes of Greensboro, North Carolina, from which she welcomed her final and youngest son, Gary. In 1998, she retired from the Medical College of Virginia, where she worked for a number of years as an LPN. In memory of her love and legacy she leaves three sons, George, Patrick (Paula) and Gary (Glynis); one sister, Inez Taylor (Thomas); eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three devoted extended family members: Joyce Orange, Carletta Randolph and Bridget Johnson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless "by choice" family members. Miss Virginia also leaves a host of close friends and colleagues, including Miss Hattie Mack. \n\nRemains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull St., where the family will receive friends on Friday, March 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her homegoing service will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m., at Second Baptist Church, 3300 Broad Rock Blvd., with Pastor Ralph S. Hodge, Senior Pastor, officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the ICU staff at Chippenham Hospital for the exceptional care provided to Miss Virginia during her stay there.
