Midlothian, Virginia
William Lee Jr., age 92, of Midlothian, Va, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Born on April 22, 1934, in Chesterfield County, William was the son of William Lee Sr. and Dorothy Miller Lee. He grew up in Chesterfield County and attended Carver High School. He also spent time at Richmond Technical Center, where he took auto mechanics classes and developed a genuine interest in working with cars. William had a varied and hardworking career. Early in his career, he worked at Watkins Nursery before moving on to Martin Chevrolet. William went on to become a lab technician at Texaco Experiment and machine operator at Imperial Chemical Industries, ICI. In his later working years, William found his way behind the wheel as a bus driver for Chesterfield County Public Schools. Though the jobs were different, one thing remained constant: William brought a strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to help with everything he did.
On September 12, 1953, he married the love of his life, Elsie Campbell, and together they shared 72 years of marriage.
Outside of work, William enjoyed staying busy and working with his hands. As a young man, he loved riding bicycles and playing baseball. As the years went on, his interests grew to include working on cars, tending to the yard, and gardening. William loved growing fruits and vegetables in his garden to share with the community. He had a natural curiosity about how things worked and could often be found tinkering with anything mechanical, taking things apart, figuring out how they worked, and putting them back together. There was little he couldn't fix or at least wasn't willing to try. William was a familiar face at the Midlothian Walmart, where he was a daily customer and became well known and fondly remembered by the people who worked there.
William was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Midlothian before becoming a founding member of Friendship Memorial Baptist Church. His faith was an important part of his life. William dedicated many years to serving in the Deacon Ministry and Church Choir.
William is survived by his daughter; Joyce (Wayne) Solomon; his grandchildren: Monica (Dalton) Trouth, Michelle Solomon (Alberic Nieves) and Kevin Solomon; his great grandchildren: Donovan, Mya, Natalia and Nico; and his siblings David (Michelle) Lee and Raymond (Ida) Lee.
William was preceded in death by his wife Elsie Campbell Lee, his parents William Lee Sr. and Dorothy Miller Lee, and his brother Wallace Lee.
William’s love, kindness and memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
